A wonderland of light awaits
Special lighting displays and projections turn the park and path into a beautiful wonderland for people of all ages to visit and enjoy.
As you wander, Kaiapoi Lights shares the story of Matariki and the historical significance of the Kaiapoi area woven through glowing installations, live performances and surprises around every corner.

Four nights of light
Dates & times
The Light Path runs for four nights from 8–11 July 2026. Wednesday and Thursday close a little earlier; Friday and Saturday stay open late so there’s plenty of time to explore.
On Friday, walk the short distance to the Matariki Kaiapoi celebration in Norman Kirk Park for the fireworks at 7pm.

Before you come
Good to know
No dogs
For everyones’s safety, especially around fireworks, please leave dogs at home.
Alcohol & smoke free
Anyone inebriated won’t be permitted entry, and smokers will be asked to leave.
Wrap up warm
It’s a midwinter night, bring a coat, hat, and comfy shoes.
